flowersChatham, which has been making history since 1777, is affectionately called the "Prettiest Little Town in Southside Virginia." Travelers on U.S. Highway 29 exit onto Business 29, which turns into our Historic Main Street.

Magnificent Victorian houses set back among the trees delight the eye and beautifully manicured lawns decorate the landscape. Springtime blossoms as some 2,500 tulips and bowers of dogwood paint the town with myriads of colors as set out by the Chatham Beautification Committee, which has won many awards from Keep Virginia Beautiful, including The Most Beautiful Town in Virginia Award.

Hundreds of red geranium blaze throughout the summer, giving Chatham a charming, "heart-of-town view of Virginia." Fall is ablaze with golden yellow, vermilion, orange, and red. We deck the halls and put on our finest for the celebration of Christmas in Historic Chatham. The people of the town dress in traditional costume and invite you to sing carols, sip cider, enjoy traditional ginger cookies, and experience a moving candle lighting ceremony. You are also most welcome to participate in the Yule Log ceremony, tour local homes, and just be part of the festivities.

We urge you to explore our town, shop in our stores and dine in our restaurants. We cordially invite you to visit our art galleries and view and enjoy the talents of our local artists. You will have the opportunity to dine in a rare Trolley Diner, discover local authors at our bookstore and browse in our specialty shops.

And finally, you are most welcome to overnight at one of our lovely Historic Bed and Breakfast Inns. But most of all...

Be our guests and please let us welcome you
to the Heart of Southside Virginia.
