     Virginia: At a Public Hearing of the Council for the Town of Chatham, held in the Chatham Fire Station, at 6:30 P.M. on October 13, 2009.

 

                            Present: George O. Haley, Mayor

 

Council Members: Roy Byrd, C.B. Cundiff, Jim McDole, Joe Rogers, and Robert Thompson. Absent: Alvin Crider.

 

 

THE PURPOSE OF THE HEARING WAS TO RECEIVE PUBLIC COMMENT ON THE PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE TOWN CHARTER SECT. 3 (3) DATE OF ELECTIONS,

SECT. 8 (1) APPOINTMENT OF TOWN MANAGER AND ON CHANGES TO THE TOWN CODE CHPTS. 13.08.010G, 13.08.020, 2.12.20, 2.12.30, 2.12.50, 2.08.010, 2.08.020, 2.08.030, 2.08.050

2.08.060, 2.08.070, 2.08.060, 2.08.080, 2.08.070, 2.08.090, 2.08.080, AND 2.12.060 PERTAINING TO DUTIES OF THE TOWN MANAGER AND DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS, AS WELL AS, LANDLORD RESPOSIBILITIES.

 

Clerk David Cothran asked Attorney Larry Gott how current office holders are handled due to the extension of their office under the proposed change to the election date.

 

Gott stated that the code of Virginia allows for those effected by the change to remain in office until December 31 of their current election year.

 

He, also, stated that the VA State Legislature would be asked to make the charter change effective upon their approval.
